ACIO Grade II Exam 2023: Selection Process and Detailed Syllabus

The Intelligence Bureau (IB) conducts the ACIO Grade II/Executive Exam to recruit officers for various intelligence agencies in India. The selection process is rigorous and consists of three stages:

1. Tier-I Exam:

  • Objective type, computer-based exam conducted across India.
  • 200 questions in 2 hours, covering General Awareness, Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language.
  • Minimum qualifying score: 40% for General category, 35% for OBC, 33% for SC/ST/PwBD.

2. Tier-II Exam:

  • Descriptive type, pen-and-paper exam.
  • Two sections: Essay Writing (30 marks) and Comprehension & Précis Writing (20 marks).
  • Duration: 1 hour.
  • Minimum qualifying score: 33% (17 marks).

3. Interview:

  • In-depth assessment of personality, communication skills, and suitability for the job.
  • Shortlisted candidates from Tier-II are called for the interview based on their scores.

Detailed Syllabus:

Tier-I Exam:

  • General Awareness: Current affairs, national and international, India’s political, economic and social system, geography, history, science, technology, etc.
     
  • Reasoning Ability: Logical reasoning, analytical reasoning, verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning.
     
  • Quantitative Aptitude: Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistics, etc.
     
  • English Language: Comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, usage, etc.
     

Tier-II Exam:

  • Essay Writing: A topic of general interest will be given. Candidates are expected to write a well-organized essay within the stipulated time limit, demonstrating their writing skills, critical thinking, and knowledge of the chosen topic.
     
  • Comprehension & Précis Writing: A passage will be given, and candidates will be required to summarize it concisely and accurately in their own words. This tests their reading comprehension, writing skills, and ability to identify the main points of a text.
